Meet Zumpi Dumpi Pre-School”…. Paragraph needs to change to read as follows:
Melkos Care Centre has been providing Early Childhood Education since 2018 through the pre-primary school, better known as “Zumpi Dumpi”.  The school is headed by a qualified Foundation Phase teacher and a team of 8 dedicated educators.  We provide a nurturing haven for 60 children aged 2 to 6 (Gr R), ensuring a holistic approach to learning, play and essential life skills through accredited curricula.  At Melkbos Care Centre we go beyond academics by offering daily transport to 120 children, a crucial feeding scheme and comprehensive mentoring and support.

Zumpi Dumpi Pre-School

Our Early Childhood Education project is called Zumpi Dumpi pre-school and was established in 2018. We cater for children from 2 to 6 years old (Gr R). A qualified junior primary teacher heads a team of 8 teachers and assistant teachers, all qualified or in the process of being qualified.

Our capacity is 60 children who are educated according to two registered curricula namely CAPS for Gr.R and Kinderland.

Our day starts with the children being collected from home. At Zumpi Dumpi they enjoy a hearty breakfast with their friends. Then it is a full day of learning and fun. In between they get lunch and for some, a time to sleep. Playing and learning makes them tired! After school the children are transported home to go and rest for tomorrow when they come and play and learn again.

The Melkbos Care Centre also make sure all immunisations are up to date. In Gr. R they have their eyes tested and are assessed before going to Primary school. The Centre also assist parents with the online registration for school.

Transport

We transport ± 120 children to school and back on a daily basis making sure they attend school despite adverse weather conditions or distance from school.

A subsidised fee is charged making it possible for children not to miss school because of the cost of transport.

Gently Loved

Sixty percent (60%) of our funding is obtained from our thrift shop called Gently Loved. Situated in the main economic hub of Melkbosstrand we serve as a destination thrift store as well as offering a service to the community by being the official second-hand clothing store for the schools in Melkbosstrand.

Food Program

During school terms all children who are in the local primary school have access to breakfast at the school. Volunteer mothers prepare breakfast and school lunch that is available to any child who is hungry and need sustenance, irrespective of whether they are registered with the Centre or not. Currently the average amount of children making use of this service daily, is around 75.

During the holidays we have volunteer moms in the underprivileged communities who prepare a meal a day from donations that we procure on their behalf.

Mentorship and support

All the Melkbos Care Centre children are supported with school stationery, subsidized clothing and mentorship. Needs are assessed on a merit basis and services procured through sponsors and volunteer support.

Mentorship needs of the more senior children are addressed through workshops during the holidays and mental health check-ins by a team of volunteers.
